The dreaded sound

As a mama there are sounds that will stop me in my tracks. Make my blood run cold. Scare the frick out of me. No, not the smoke alarm or a tornado siren. Not a wet cough or continuous sneezing. Okay, I'm not a monster. These sounds are distressing. But the following sounds bring this girl to her knees.
1) That giggle, song, even one word heard when you have convinced yourself she really is asleep. You really can have five minutes to yourself. Naptime really is going to happen. Wrong.
2) Any noise involving the toilet. Flushing. The lid slamming. Water splashing. Do not hesitate-RUN.
3) Zippers. Miss C has recently mastered this skill. Her main interest-unzipping my makeup bag. She colored the carpet with lipstick in February. She will coat herself in chapstick. Any flooring and furniture as well.
4) Her stool being scooted across the floor. Undoubtedly she is trying to reach gummi worms or candy corn still four feet out of reach. And who knows what she will consider an acceptable substitution.
5) And probably the scariest sound of all~silence. Silence when she is not asleep and I have let her be by herself, in a different room for a few moments. A room without a monitor to convey her exact movements. This last occured on Sunday morning. She was in her room playing but the noise grew dimmer. I was too deep into the bliss of my bed to fully realize. When I did I found her in the bathroom. Cleaning the toilet. Cleaning is a generous term. Flinging water with the toilet brush and soaking her bear and blankie is more accurate. But that's mouthful so let's call it cleaning.
And now I am off. Number one is occuring as we speak.
